European aircraft manufacturer Airbus may face delays in the introduction of the A350F freighter due to supply chain issues. The planned entry into service could be delayed until 2027, one year later than initially planned.
Supply Issues and Spirit AeroSystems Crisis
Airbus stated that supply of the fuselage parts required for the A350F is facing challenges due to quality control issues with American manufacturer Spirit AeroSystems. According to industry sources, this is the main reason for the delayed introduction of the freighter.
This supply crisis could affect not only the A350F but also the production rate of A350 passenger aircraft, which is currently producing fewer than six units per month.
The manufacturer has not yet made an official public statement on the matter, but its annual results are expected to be released in the coming days. These announcements may provide more details about the A350F production process and delays.
A350F Orders and Customers
Airbus introduced the A350F program in 2021, allowing airlines time for evaluation. So far, nine different customers have placed a total of 66 orders for the A350F.
The largest buyers are:
- Etihad Airways and Starlux Airlines (10 orders each)
- Air France, Singapore Airlines, Turkish Airlines
- Air Lease Corporation (7 orders)
- An undisclosed customer (3 orders)
Technical Specifications and Advantages of the A350F
Based on the A350 model, the A350F has been specially modified to bring “next-generation efficiency” to cargo transport.
- Up to 40% reduction in fuel consumption and CO₂ emissions
- High efficiency and durability with Rolls-Royce Trent XWB-97 engines
- Full compliance with ICAO environmental requirements
- “Advanced cargo door” with a 175-inch cross-section and 169.5-inch clear opening
- Wider cargo space compared to Boeing 747F and 777F models
The A350F will replace the famous Beluga, which was discontinued last month, and will be Airbus’s sixth freighter aircraft.
