Air travel between Russia and Iran, which had been suspended for an extended period, has resumed following a new decision by Russia’s Federal Air Transport Agency (Rosaviatsiya). The ban, which was initially expected to remain in effect until 25 June 2025, was lifted earlier than anticipated, revitalising aviation traffic between the two countries.
After the restrictions were removed, the first flight operated by Iran-based Mahan Air took off from Moscow Sheremetyevo Airport at 12:02 PM (Turkey time) en route to Iran.
Aeroflot to Resume Tehran Flights on 4 July
Russia’s national carrier, Aeroflot, announced that it will resume flights to Tehran starting 4 July. According to information published on the airline’s official website, the flights will operate three times a week—on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays—on a reciprocal basis.
Time Restrictions for Flights to Israel
Rosaviatsiya also announced time-based restrictions for flights to Israel. According to the decision, flights to Israel will be prohibited between 01:00 and 07:00 (Turkey time). During the rest of the day, flights will be allowed based on risk assessments in line with the International Civil Aviation Organization’s (ICAO) conflict zone guidelines. These restrictions are set to remain in place until 02:59 AM on 12 July 2025.
Qatar Flight Restrictions Also Lifted
In a separate statement, Rosaviatsiya declared the removal of the temporary flight ban on Qatar. Russian airlines have now been authorised to use Qatari airspace again.
These developments signal an accelerated return to normal in regional air traffic, with expectations that passenger transport—especially commercial flights—will rebound accordingly.
