A FOD (Foreign Object Debris) Awareness Walk was held at Ercan Airport to raise awareness about foreign object debris that may be present in aircraft movement areas and could negatively affect flight safety.
The event was organised by T&T Airport Operations, with teams from the Civil Aviation Department, Istanbul Handling, Turkish Airlines, Pegasus Airlines and Cyprus Turkish Petroleum also participating in the walk.

Joint Effort Against Substances Threatening Flight Safety
Foreign objects such as pieces of rubber, stones, sand, plastic bottles, paper, beverage cans, cloth or plastic bags that may be found in aircraft movement areas (runway, apron and taxiway) can endanger safety by damaging engines and landing gear during flight operations.
To minimise such risks, airport staff regularly inspect and clean aircraft movement areas.
The awareness walk was carried out to highlight the importance of this process and to increase flight safety awareness among airport employees.

The Event Will Continue at Regular Intervals
In the evaluation made after the event, it was stated that FOD awareness walks contribute to the culture of flight safety and will therefore be repeated at regular intervals.
At the end of the walk, Turkish Airlines Ercan Airport Station Chief Mustafa Taluğ presented a model aircraft to the winning participant in a draw.

Flight Safety Emphasis from T&T Airport
Officials from T&T Airport Operations stated that, with this event, they will continue to strengthen the safety culture and improve international aviation standards together with all stakeholders working at Ercan Airport.
