Selahattin Bilgen, CEO of İGA Istanbul Airport, took part in the Airport CEO Symposium held as part of the 35th ACI EUROPE Annual Congress and General Assembly in Athens, Greece. During the panel moderated by Kata Cserep of PA Consulting, the future of airport management was discussed in depth.
In his speech at the symposium, CEO Bilgen explained how İGA Istanbul Airport has developed sustainable solutions to operational vulnerabilities by embracing the principles of flexibility, operational excellence, and strategic foresight.

A New Era with the Triple Runway Operation
Bilgen specifically highlighted Istanbul Airport’s groundbreaking implementation of the Triple Runway Operation, stating:
“We have increased our hourly flight capacity from 120 to 148 movements. We achieved this by operating three fully independent runways simultaneously, utilising our existing infrastructure in the most efficient way. This operation is a capability that only a few airports in Europe possess.”
He emphasised that this success was the result of more than two years of strong institutional coordination and planning, which constitutes one of the core pillars of İGA’s vision to build ‘future-ready’ operations.

“Resilience Is Not Just Recovery, It Is Preparedness”
Selahattin Bilgen concluded his remarks with the following:
“Resilience is not only about recovering after a crisis; it is about being prepared for potential shocks. At İGA Istanbul Airport, we place this approach at the heart of our operations. It is a great honour for us to share the stage with esteemed colleagues who are shaping the future of aviation.”

The ACI EUROPE Annual Congress brings together leading airport executives, public authorities, and industry stakeholders from across Europe, playing a key role in shaping the transformation of global aviation.
