Long Thanh International Airport, Vietnam’s largest infrastructure project, is being constructed by the VIETUR Consortium, led by IC Içtaş Construction. Once completed, the airport is expected to serve 100 million passengers annually, positioning itself as one of Southeast Asia’s most significant aviation hubs.
High Praise from Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh
Vietnamese Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh recently visited the construction site for an on-site inspection. Expressing his satisfaction with the project’s progress, he emphasised that Long Thanh Airport would make a strategic contribution to Vietnam’s aviation sector.
On 17th February, Deputy Prime Minister Tran Hong Ha met with IC Holding Board Member Reha Denemeç, highlighting that the airport is a symbolic project strengthening relations between Vietnam and Türkiye.
Smart Project Management with BIM Technology
The construction of Long Thanh Airport utilises BIM (Building Information Modelling) technology to enhance project management efficiency. Through three-dimensional modelling, architects and engineers can meticulously plan the construction process, identifying potential issues in advance. This approach minimises costs and optimises coordination between different teams.
Project officials state that construction is being carried out using environmentally friendly methods, with regular assessments conducted in line with the Environmental Impact Assessment report approved by Vietnam’s Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment.
Critical Phase: Steel Structure Installation
Following the completion of the reinforced concrete structures, the project has entered one of its most critical phases: steel structure installation. The assembly of the main steel trusses is carried out using advanced cranes and Strand Jack systems, which both enhance workplace safety and accelerate the installation process.
A Successful Example of Turkish-Vietnamese Collaboration
Led by IC Içtaş Construction, the VIETUR Consortium stands out as a successful example of Turkish-Vietnamese cooperation. The consortium is composed of 51% Turkish companies and 49% local Vietnamese firms. Currently, the project employs 703 white-collar and 1,847 blue-collar workers, with this number expected to rise in the later stages of construction.
Strategic Contribution to Regional Development
With a total investment of $14.9 billion, Long Thanh International Airport is set to become not only Vietnam’s but also Southeast Asia’s premier logistics and tourism hub. The project is expected to bolster regional development through its contributions to the trade, logistics, and tourism sectors, while once again showcasing the strength of the Turkish construction industry on the global stage.
As one of Vietnam’s key strategic infrastructure projects, Long Thanh Airport continues to progress according to the planned schedule, supported by effective risk management strategies. Officials stress that efforts are being meticulously coordinated to ensure the project is completed in line with sustainable development goals.
