The International Air Transport Association (IATA) has shared air passenger demand data for September 2024. Global demand, measured in revenue passenger kilometers (RPK), increased by 7.1% compared to September 2023, reaching an all-time high for the month. Capacity, measured in available seat kilometers (ASK), rose by 5.8%, while the load factor climbed to 83.6% (+1.0 ppt).
Performance of International and Domestic Markets
International passenger demand grew 9.2% year-over-year, with capacity increasing by 9.1% and a load factor of 83.8% (+0.1 ppt). Domestic demand rose by 3.7%, with capacity up by 0.7%, reaching a load factor of 83.3% (+2.4 ppt).

IATA Director General Willie Walsh highlighted that the record demand is a positive sign for the global economy. However, he noted that capacity constraints in some regions could limit future growth. Walsh stressed that governments should strongly support the airline industry’s efforts to reach net zero carbon emissions by 2050.
