Horrific Accident: Azerbaijani Plane Crashes During Emergency Landing. Survivors and Casualties Announced
The Ministry of Emergency Situations of Kazakhstan has expressed concern over the possibility of significant loss of life following the crash of an Azerbaijan Airlines (AZAL) passenger plane near Aktau. Rescue efforts are swiftly underway as authorities work to gather detailed information about the incident.
Embraer 190 Aircraft Belonging to Azerbaijan Airlines Involved in Crash
An Embraer 190 passenger aircraft, carrying 72 passengers, en route from Baku, Azerbaijan, to Grozny, Russia, was forced to alter its route due to adverse weather conditions. The plane crashed near Kazakhstan’s Aktau city during an emergency landing amid heavy fog in the region. Search and rescue operations in the area began immediately following the incident.
Survivors and Injured Transported to the Hospital
According to a statement from the Kazakhstan Ministry of Health, six survivors were reported from the crash. The injured were transported to the Aktau Multidisciplinary Hospital, with their conditions described as critical. Additionally, it was reported that 10 more individuals were undergoing treatment, with their health statuses also deemed serious.
Possibility of Higher Survivor Numbers
Initial reports suggest that more than the initially reported 72 people on board may have survived. The plane was carrying 67 passengers and 5 crew members. Preliminary investigations revealed that 12 individuals had survived the crash. However, authorities noted that rescue operations were ongoing, and the number of survivors could rise.

Emergency Landing and ‘SOS’ Signal Sent
While flying over the Caspian Sea, the aircraft sent out an “SOS” signal due to severe weather conditions. Directed to Kazakhstan’s Aktau Airport, the plane met with disaster during its emergency landing. Adverse weather and fog are believed to have played a significant role in the crash.

Azerbaijan Airlines (AZAL) has not yet issued an official statement regarding the accident. Whether the crash was caused by technical failure or weather-related issues will be determined through ongoing investigations. Officials have launched a comprehensive inquiry into the incident, stating that the findings will be shared with the public.
