FedEx Research: 10.1% Growth Expected Compared to 2023
A new FedEx study on the 2024 peak season forecasts that courier and express parcel (CEP) deliveries in Turkey will exceed 476 million during the October-December period. This represents a 10.1% increase compared to 2023. Conducted by global consulting firm Effigy Consulting, the research analysed 500,000 data points across 300 carriers in 41 countries.
Turkey Among Europe’s Fastest Growing Markets
With 476 million parcels projected for 2024, up from 432 million in 2023, Turkey stands out as one of Europe’s fastest-growing parcel markets. During the holiday season, Turkey will account for 7.7% of total package deliveries in Europe, positioning it ahead of larger European countries such as Spain and Italy, and just behind the UK (1.29 billion), Germany (1.1 billion), and France (524 million).
The primary driver of this increase is the rapid growth of e-commerce across Europe. Seventy per cent of all deliveries during the holiday season will be direct-to-consumer parcels.
6.2 Billion Parcels Expected Across Europe
For the 2024 peak season, 6.2 billion parcels are expected to be delivered across Europe, marking a 9% increase over the previous year. The total weight of these deliveries is estimated to exceed 7.5 million tonnes, with the average parcel weight per capita across the EU and UK expected to be around 15 kg.
Turkey’s Preparation for Black Friday and New Year’s
High e-commerce volume events such as Black Friday represent the busiest periods of the peak season. In Turkey, Black Friday deliveries are projected to reach 10.8 million parcels. In addition, there is an anticipated 12% growth in business-to-business (B2B) deliveries, driven by the popularity of online shopping and businesses’ need to restock for the year-end.
Statements from Eser Sezek, Vice President of FedEx Ground Operations, Southeast Europe and France
Eser Sezek, FedEx Vice President of Ground Operations for Southeast Europe and France, highlighted the significance of the holiday season for the logistics sector: “The peak season presents a major opportunity for many businesses we support in Turkey. With our air and road network, we guide our customers to seize growth opportunities across regions. Turkey holds a vital position in the European market as a trade bridge to Asia and the Middle East.”
