Turkish Airlines (THY), known as the airline flying to the most countries in the world, has achieved another milestone. On November 27, 2024, THY launched its longest-ever flight route: Istanbul to Sydney. The inaugural flight, operated with a layover in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, adds Australia’s largest city, Sydney, to THY’s global network, increasing its total destinations to 351 across six continents.

According to a statement by THY’s Press Office, the Istanbul-Sydney flights will operate four times a week using Airbus A350-900 aircraft. This route marks a significant milestone in both Turkish Airlines’ and Turkey’s aviation history.
THY CEO Bilal Ekşi expressed pride in this achievement, stating:
“Our Sydney flights reaffirm Turkish Airlines’ commitment to comfort and hospitality. We aim to make this route non-stop in the future, establishing a strong connection between Istanbul and Sydney while serving as a bridge linking Europe and Australia.”

New South Wales Minister for Jobs and Tourism, John Graham, highlighted the positive impact of THY’s presence in Sydney, saying:
“Turkish Airlines’ flights to Sydney will greatly enhance tourism in our region. This new route will significantly boost our state’s economy and employment. The increase in visitors will revitalize multiple sectors, especially tourism.”
Scott Charlton, CEO of Sydney Airport, warmly welcomed THY’s arrival, stating:
“Turkish Airlines will strengthen Sydney’s international connectivity and foster deep ties between Australia and Turkey. This route will enhance market competition while providing more options for travelers.”

THY has announced special promotional fares for its new route. Tickets for Istanbul-Sydney flights start at $999 USD, while Sydney-Istanbul flights are priced at $1,489 AUD.
