The domestically developed HÜRJET advanced jet trainer, produced by Turkish Aerospace Industries (TUSAŞ), is making its debut in Europe. The Spanish Air Force has decided to replace its long-serving F-5 jets with the HÜRJET. This development is seen as a historic milestone for the Turkish defence industry.
Spain Officially Announces: HÜRJET Joins the Fleet
According to Spanish aviation publication Avion Revue, a ceremony will be held on Wednesday, 14 May, to mark the official inclusion of HÜRJET in the Spanish Air Force inventory. This will make HÜRJET the first Turkish-made jet trainer to be operated by a European Union member state.
F-5s Retired, HÜRJET Takes Over
HÜRJET will replace the F-5 aircraft currently in service with the 23rd Wing based in Talavera, near the capital Madrid. With its modern technology and high performance, HÜRJET is expected to significantly enhance the training capacity of Spanish pilots.
Experts view this decision as a decisive step in Spain’s military aviation modernisation strategy. It also stands as a concrete indication of international confidence in Turkey’s advanced defence technologies.
Unveiled in Spanish Camouflage at FEINDEF
TUSAŞ showcased HÜRJET at the 2025 International Defence and Security Exhibition (FEINDEF), painted in a camouflage pattern specifically designed for the Spanish Air Force. The aircraft display stand was visited by Spain’s Minister of Defence, María Margarita Robles Fernández.
