An Airbus A320 aircraft belonging to Austrian Airlines (AUA), a subsidiary of Lufthansa, encountered severe turbulence and a hailstorm while flying from Mallorca to Vienna on Sunday. Due to the unexpected hailstorm during the flight, the pilot was forced to make a blind landing. The accident was narrowly avoided, and all passengers emerged unscathed.
Incident and Aftermath
The Airbus A320, operating the Mallorca-Vienna route, landed in Vienna with passengers and crew breathing a sigh of relief. The severe hailstorm caused significant damage to the aircraft’s nose. Initially, there were no signs of an unusual or dangerous flight. However, an Austrian passenger later told the “Kronen” newspaper, “We flew through a storm front.” Austrian Airlines stated that this storm cell was not visible on their radar systems.

Pilot’s Heroic Effort
As the flight progressed, the pilot informed the passengers that the windshield had shattered. Despite this, the pilot managed to safely land the aircraft at Vienna Airport with remarkable composure. Upon disembarking, passengers noticed that the front part of the aircraft was completely shattered.
All passengers were unharmed, but they were shocked upon seeing the damage to the plane. Thanks to the professionalism of the pilot and crew, a major disaster was averted.
