A Gulf Air flight from Mumbai to Manchester via Bahrain made an emergency landing due to an engine fire. Following the incident, Indian and Pakistani passengers were stranded at Kuwait Airport for 13 hours, raising allegations of discriminatory treatment.

Claims of Discrimination

Passengers alleged that while European and U.S. passport holders were provided hotel accommodations, Indian and Pakistani travelers were left without assistance. Arzoo Singh, one of the passengers, stated that basic necessities like water and blankets were initially denied during the ordeal.

Diplomatic Intervention

The Indian embassy swiftly intervened to provide support to the stranded passengers. However, the assistance process faced challenges as hotels were fully booked due to the GCC Summit and government offices were closed.

Flight Details

The incident occurred on Gulf Air’s 6.5-year-old Boeing 787 Dreamliner during the Bahrain-Manchester leg. The aircraft made an emergency landing after reporting an engine fire, and all passengers were safely evacuated.
