Germany is preparing to send 4,000 high-tech, AI-controlled armed drones to Ukraine, marking a significant escalation in its military support for the country.
Defense Ministry spokesperson Natalie Jenning confirmed in Berlin that the German government would supply Ukraine with this new generation of drones. However, Jenning refrained from providing further details, citing military security concerns.
First Deliveries to Begin in December
According to a report by Bild, the German AI company Helsing signed a contract with Ukraine’s Ministry of Defense in September for the delivery of the drones. The first shipments are expected to begin in December.
These drones boast advanced technical features, including GPS jamming resistance, allowing operators to navigate them effectively even in poor weather conditions or heavily bombed areas. Additionally, the drones are reported to have a significantly greater range than Ukraine’s existing kamikaze drones.
To Be Used Against Russian Military Positions
The German drones are expected to perform strategic missions, such as targeting tanks and attacking Russian military positions. These next-generation drones are anticipated to make a substantial contribution to Ukraine’s current military capabilities.
Germany’s Continued Support for Ukraine
Germany remains a key player among nations providing military aid to Ukraine. Having previously supplied various defense equipment and weapons systems, Germany now aims to shift the balance on the battlefield with high-tech drones, underscoring its commitment to supporting Ukraine in its ongoing conflict.
