Gas Leak at Schiphol Airport: Pier F Evacuated!

Pier F at Schiphol Airport in Amsterdam, the Netherlands, was evacuated on Saturday evening due to a gas leak. The critical incident occurred around 7:00 PM, but authorities quickly brought the situation under control. The leak was resolved at approximately 10:30 PM, and the pier was reopened for operations.

According to airport security officials who spoke to the Dutch news agency ANP, the gas flow was shut off, and the danger was eliminated. While the incident did not cause major disruptions, some planes and passengers near the pier had to be evacuated as a precaution.

Accident Caused the Gas Leak

Authorities believe the gas leak was caused by a damaged pipeline following a vehicle accident. However, the exact cause of the incident has yet to be confirmed. A security spokesperson stated that details of the event are under investigation.

During the incident, Pier F one of Schiphol’s eight piers was home to aircraft operated by Turkish Airlines, Aeroméxico, EVA Air, and KLM. While one of the evacuated planes reportedly had no passengers on board, others were safely evacuated. According to a post by a passenger on platform X, alarms echoed throughout the affected airport section during the evacuation.

Indefinite Delay for KLM Aircraft

A KLM flight to Singapore faced an indefinite delay due to the gas leak. Passengers were informed of the situation through updates provided by the airline.

Schiphol Airport is known as one of Europe’s busiest airports. The timely containment of the gas leak prevented a larger crisis. Authorities emphasized that safety procedures were meticulously followed and that operations have since returned to normal.
