FlySafair Flight Scandal: Racist Remarks and Physical Assault Sparks Outrage
FlySafair announced that a woman involved in verbal and physical altercations with cabin crew during a flight is now permanently banned from the airline’s services.
FlySafair Official: “Added to the No-Fly List”
Kirby Gordon, FlySafair’s Chief Marketing Officer, confirmed to IOL that the passenger has been placed on the airline’s no-fly list. Gordon stated, “This passenger will not be welcome on any future FlySafair flights.”

Alcohol Dispute and Racist Slurs Onboard
The incident occurred on a flight from Durban to Cape Town, where the passenger reportedly engaged in a heated argument with the crew after being denied further alcohol service. Viral social media footage showed the woman using racist slurs and physically assaulting flight attendants.
The passenger was identified as an employee of the South African Broadcasting Corporation (SABC). Hailing from Pietermaritzburg in KwaZulu-Natal and residing in Gauteng, the passenger was reportedly calmed by others during the December 26, 2024, flight.
Reactions from FlySafair and SABC
Kirby Gordon strongly condemned the assault, emphasizing that the primary duty of flight attendants is to ensure passenger safety and that interfering with this role constitutes a criminal offense.
In a separate statement, the SABC announced it would evaluate the employee’s behavior according to internal procedures.
ANC Launches Investigation
The incident also drew the attention of the African National Congress (ANC) after reports surfaced alleging the passenger made derogatory remarks about the party.
The ANC described the behavior as entirely unacceptable, stating, “We will not allow individuals violating the principles of dignity and decency expected of all South Africans to tarnish the reputation of our organization.”
