A Flydubai flight from Dubai to Moscow was forced to make an emergency landing at Azerbaijan’s Heydar Aliyev International Airport due to the disruptive behavior of a passenger. Details and footage of the incident have been shared with the public.
Tensions Erupt Onboard
According to Oxu.Az, the unruly passenger, identified as Roman Pakhomov, boarded the plane sober and calm. However, he later began consuming alcohol he had brought onboard, which allegedly led to his behavior spiraling out of control.
Eyewitnesses reported that the passenger:
- Began shouting,
- Kicked cabin crew members,
- Broke plastic handcuffs and duct tape while restrained and struck at the plane windows.
Due to these actions, the flight crew decided to land in Baku for safety reasons.
Pakhomov Claims to Remember Nothing
After regaining composure, Roman Pakhomov admitted that he could not recall his actions. Officials suspect that his behavior resulted from a combination of alcohol and possible drug use.
Statement from Heydar Aliyev Airport
Officials from Heydar Aliyev International Airport confirmed that the emergency landing was due to a passenger’s unethical behavior. The incident occurred at 1:27 AM on December 28.
Flightradar24 also recorded the emergency landing, though specific details about the incident were not provided.
Flydubai Flights Delayed
In response to the event, Flydubai announced operational changes, delaying its Dubai-Mineralnye Vody and Dubai-Sochi flights until January 2 and 3, respectively.
