Following Iran’s missile attacks targeting U.S. military bases in Qatar and Kuwait, airspace that had been temporarily closed to flights was reopened after security checks were completed. The attacks, which heightened regional tensions, had briefly brought Gulf air traffic to a near standstill.
Qatar: Return to Normal Flight Scheduling
The Qatar Civil Aviation Authority announced via social media that full coordination had been established with relevant authorities and that, following necessary security measures, the airspace had become operational again. The statement confirmed that scheduled flights at airports across the country continued as usual.
Kuwait: Threat Level Lowered, Flights Resumed
Similarly, the General Directorate of Civil Aviation in Kuwait announced that its airspace was reopened for flights and that stability had been restored. Kuwait Airways also informed the public that scheduled flights would continue as planned.
Four Countries Temporarily Closed Their Airspace
The attacks by Iran’s Revolutionary Guards targeted the Al-Udeid Air Base in Qatar and U.S. military sites in Kuwait. Authorized by Iran’s Supreme National Security Council and the Khatam al-Anbiya Headquarters, the strikes led Qatar, Kuwait, Iraq, and Bahrain to temporarily close their airspace to flights.
Turkish Airlines Flights Also Affected
Following the attacks, Turkish Airlines (THY) cancelled some flights in the region due to security concerns. Airlines are reviewing flight plans and will make decisions based on new developments.
