A disruption at the Heide Refinery, which supplies fuel to Hamburg Airport, has affected the provision of jet fuel. Some flights were cancelled, while passengers were warned about possible delays.
Hamburg Airport, one of Germany’s key air transport hubs, is facing difficulties due to a disruption in jet fuel supply. An unexpected issue at the Heide Refinery has led to the cancellation of several flights.
In a statement, the refinery’s management said: “Due to unforeseen reasons, jet fuel cannot currently be supplied. However, this issue is not related to sabotage or a terrorist attack. We are working intensively to resolve the problem within the day.”
Because of the fuel shortage, Marabu Airlines cancelled two flights to Mallorca, while Condor’s scheduled service to Hurghada, Egypt, was diverted to Düsseldorf Airport. Lufthansa, however, announced that its own flights were not affected by the disruption.
Hamburg Airport management underlined that fuel supply is the responsibility of the airlines, stating: “We only provide the space. Aircraft fuel tanks and refuelling equipment belong to the airlines.”
Passengers were advised to contact their airlines regarding potential delays or cancellations.
