Flights at Damascus Airport Suspended Until 2025

The Syrian Civil Aviation Authority has announced that all flights at Damascus International Airport, except those with special permits, will be suspended until January 1, 2025.

Official Statement from the Airport

In a statement from the airport administration, it was clarified that only flights with special authorization from the Civil Aviation Authority would continue. All commercial flights to and from Damascus have been suspended under this decision.

First Test Flight Conducted Following the Collapse of the Bashar al-Assad Regime

After opposition groups led by Hayat Tahrir al-Sham took control of Damascus and overthrew the Bashar al-Assad regime on December 8, air traffic in the country came to a near standstill. Damascus International Airport has remained closed since then.

On December 18, domestic flights resumed with the successful completion of the first test flight from Damascus to Aleppo. However, due to the current security situation and infrastructure deficiencies, airport operations are continuing on a very limited scale.

Damascus International Airport, a key transportation hub in Syria, has been closed since December 8. Experts highlight that the resumption of normal flight operations will require significant improvements in security and infrastructure reconstruction.
