FedEx has exercised its option to purchase 8 Boeing B777-200Fs and has also acquired 2 used aircraft of this type for its in-house airline, FedEx Express. Additionally, the logistics integrator has placed an order for 10 ATR72-600Fs from ATR – Avions de Transport Régional. However, as FedEx awaits the delivery of these brand-new aircraft, it will postpone the retirement of its MD-11F fleet.
B777-200F Deliveries Expected Between 2026-2027
FedEx Express is set to receive 3 new B777-200Fs in 2026, with the remaining 5 aircraft joining the fleet in 2027. The airline also announced the purchase of 2 used B777-200Fs in the third quarter of the 2025 fiscal year (December 1, 2024 – February 28, 2025). With this latest order, FedEx Express will have a total of 11 B777-200Fs in its fleet.
ATR72-600F Deliveries Scheduled for 2027-2029
The first ATR72-600F aircraft is expected to be delivered to FedEx Express in 2027, with the final aircraft arriving in 2029. The company is running multiple aircraft modernization programs, including the Boeing 777 Freighter and Boeing 767-300 Freighter, which offer better fuel efficiency per unit compared to their predecessors. This initiative will help FedEx achieve long-term operational cost savings while gradually replacing older aircraft.
MD-11F Fleet Retirement Extended to 2028-2032
FedEx Express has extended the full retirement of its MD-11F fleet from 2028 to the end of 2032. The company plans to retire 5 aircraft in the 2027 fiscal year, another 5 in 2028, 6 in 2029, and 7 in 2030.
