A British Airways flight traveling from Washington, D.C. to London was forced to make an emergency landing at Boston Logan International Airport due to a suspected bird strike and reports of smoke in the cabin. No injuries were reported.
On Saturday, April 26, British Airways Flight BA 216 departed from Dulles International Airport at 5:36 PM local time. About 90 minutes into the flight toward London Heathrow Airport, the Boeing 777 aircraft encountered a suspected bird strike. Simultaneously, reports of smoke inside the cabin emerged.
According to a statement shared with CBS 12 by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), the crew reported the presence of smoke in the cabin to authorities.
After a quick assessment by the crew, BA Flight 216 made a safe emergency landing at Boston Logan International Airport around 7:30 PM local time. Authorities confirmed that there were no injuries among passengers or crew members during the bird strike or the emergency landing.

In a statement shared with media outlets, British Airways said:
“The flight landed safely in Boston after being diverted as a precaution due to a suspected bird strike. We apologize for the delay to our customers’ travel plans, but the safety of our customers and crew is always our highest priority.”
Company officials also added that necessary support services were provided to assist passengers in completing their journeys.
