The AA5406 flight, operated by PSA Airlines on behalf of American Airlines, was evacuated after landing at Augusta Regional Airport (AGS) due to detected cabin smoke.
On Tuesday, April 1, 2025, a CRJ-900LR aircraft (N612NN, manufactured in 2019) arriving from Charlotte Douglas International Airport (CLT) to Augusta landed on Runway 35. Shortly after landing, the cabin became hazy, prompting the decision to evacuate passengers safely.
Statements from Officials
Airport official Lauren Smith stated that smoke was detected in the cabin and passengers were disembarked as a precautionary measure.
A spokesperson for American Airlines confirmed that the aircraft experienced a maintenance-related issue after landing and that passengers were directed to the airport terminal.
In an official statement, the airline said, “The safety of our customers is our top priority, and we apologize for the inconvenience caused.”
Flight Cancellation and Next Steps
The scheduled 11:00 AM departure was canceled due to the incident. Officials announced that the aircraft was undergoing technical inspection and that investigations into the cause of the issue were ongoing.
