“On December 5, 2024, an Embraer Ipanema agricultural aircraft crashed into power lines in Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil, resulting in the death of pilot Diego Tel Stedile. An investigation has been launched following the accident.”
On December 5, 2024, an Embraer E201 Ipanema agricultural aircraft crashed into high-voltage power lines in Capivari do Sul, Rio Grande do Sul state, Brazil, resulting in the tragic death of 33-year-old pilot Diego Tel Stedile.
The aircraft, owned by Capivari Aviação Agrícola, was tasked with spraying pesticide on a rice field. Upon striking the power lines, parts of the aircraft (likely a stabilizer) detached and came into contact with the cables, causing the plane to start a turn before crashing. A small fire broke out after the crash, and the aircraft was largely destroyed, with only part of the wings remaining intact.
According to the Brazilian Civil Aviation Authority (ANAC), the aircraft’s documentation was up to date, and there were no flight restrictions. The Seripa V (Fifth Aviation Accidents Investigation and Prevention Region Service) immediately launched an investigation into the incident. Capivari Aviação Agrícola expressed deep sorrow over the loss of the pilot and is cooperating with authorities to investigate the cause of the accident.
The company stated that Diego Tel Stedile was not only a skilled pilot but also a beloved and respected professional among his colleagues. Following the incident, the company pledged to provide all possible support to Diego’s family.
