A Piper PA-18A-150 Super Cub, registered as F-BAYP, was involved in a fatal accident in Méribel-les-Allues, located in France’s Savoie region. The crash claimed the lives of a 58-year-old pilot and a 26-year-old co-pilot. Reports indicate that the accident occurred following a mid-air collision with a paraglider.
The aircraft ultimately crashed into the roof of a chalet. While both pilots on board tragically lost their lives, the occupants of the paraglider reportedly escaped unharmed. An investigation has been launched to determine the exact causes of the incident.
Experienced Pilot’s Death Shocks Aviation Community
The 58-year-old pilot who perished in the crash was a highly regarded figure in the aviation world, known for his expertise and kindness. A former member of the Méribel Flying Club, he was celebrated for his aerobatic skills and passion for mountain flying. Additionally, he co-owned the historic Piper PA-18 (“Choucas”), which made aviation history during the legendary 1960 landing on Mont Blanc.
