Turkish Airlines (THY), with the support of the North Macedonian government, will launch direct flights between Istanbul and Ohrid starting March 30, 2025. The flights, scheduled twice a week, will connect Ohrid, one of North Macedonia’s prime tourist destinations, with Istanbul Airport, a major aviation hub in Europe. This new route aims to boost both tourism and business opportunities.
Strengthening North Macedonia’s International Connections
North Macedonia’s Minister of Transport, Aleksandar Nikoloski, emphasized the importance of the Istanbul connection in expanding the country’s international reach. “Turkish Airlines’ new route will broaden North Macedonia’s gateways to the world,” said Nikoloski, highlighting the significant contributions this route will bring to the country’s economy and tourism.
Subsidies from the North Macedonian Government
To support the Istanbul-Ohrid route, the North Macedonian government will offer special subsidies to passengers flying on this route, aiming to make it more attractive and increase passenger numbers. Officials from TAV Macedonia also announced plans to reach an additional 200,000 passengers at Skopje and Ohrid airports by 2025, thanks to the new flights.

THY’s Istanbul-Ohrid route will connect North Macedonia not only with Turkey but also with Europe, Asia, and the Middle East via Istanbul, enhancing the country’s tourism potential and international business cooperation.
