According to the revised “Aircraft, Passenger, and Cargo Series and Forecasts Report” by the General Directorate of State Airports Authority (DHMI) under the Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure, the number of air passengers in Turkey is expected to reach 236,563,823 this year. Last year, including direct transit passengers, the number of passengers was 214,232,985. This figure is projected to increase by 10.4% this year.
More Passengers Expected Next Year
According to the report, the number of passengers is expected to reach 249,267,610 in 2025. The largest portion of this increase is anticipated to occur in domestic flights.
Significant Increase in Domestic Flights
Last year, the number of international flight passengers was 122,950,966. This number is expected to rise by 9.1% to 134,223,406 this year. By 2025, the number of international flight passengers is projected to reach 140,180,614.
In domestic flights, the number of passengers was 91,055,014 last year. This number is expected to increase by 11.9% to 101,884,171 this year. The number of domestic flight passengers is projected to rise to 108,624,843 in 2025.
Increase in Aircraft and Cargo Traffic
Including transit overflights, last year’s aircraft traffic was 2,171,330. This number is expected to rise to 2,334,212 this year. Next year, it is projected to reach 2,434,924. Domestic aircraft traffic is expected to reach 937,747 this year, while international aircraft traffic is anticipated to reach 875,128.
Last year, the number of transit overflights was 485,453. This number is expected to increase to 521,337 this year, and 538,078 next year.
Increase in Cargo Movement
Last year, the cargo movement at airports across Turkey was 4,447,865 tons. This number is expected to reach 4,926,468 tons this year. By 2025, this figure is projected to rise to 5,122,726 tons.
