Enes Çakmak, the Director General of the General Directorate of State Airports Authority (DHMİ), has been unanimously elected to the Board of Directors of ACI Europe, one of Europe’s leading aviation organizations. ACI Europe plays a pioneering role in the development of international airport standards.
Turkey’s Growing Influence in European Aviation Policies
Çakmak’s election to the ACI Europe Board ensures that Turkey will have a stronger voice in European aviation policies. Olivier Jankovec, the Director General of ACI Europe, congratulated Çakmak and expressed his satisfaction with the contributions Turkey’s aviation sector will bring through this significant development.
ACI Europe covers over 55 airports in 500 countries and manages more than 90% of European air traffic. The organization collaborates with policymakers to set international standards for the aviation industry and develop sustainable solutions.
Çakmak’s presence on the board enables Turkey to have a direct impact on shaping aviation policies in Europe, further enhancing the country’s strategic importance in the global aviation sector.
Turkey’s Leadership in Sustainable Aviation
Turkey also stands out for its achievements in environmental sustainability. DHMİ was awarded by ACI for having the most airports with Airport Carbon Accreditation certificates in 2024. Currently, a total of 50 airports across Turkey hold this certification.
The Council works on critical areas such as environmental sustainability, digitalization, and operational efficiency. In this context, DHMİ’s collaboration with ACI Europe is considered an important step for the development of European aviation.
