Delta Airlines is making significant changes to its route network for the 2025 summer season. The airline will discontinue flights from Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) to two Central American destinations while revitalising popular routes on the West Coast. These adjustments aim to align with passenger demand and optimise capacity across its network.
Farewell to Central America Routes
Effective May 2025, Delta will terminate two routes originating from LAX:
- San Salvador (SAL): The final LAX-SAL flight is scheduled for 4 May, with the last return flight on 5 May.
- Guatemala City (GUA): The last outbound flight to GUA will depart on 5 May, with return services concluding on 6 May.
Delta cited the strategic decision as part of its efforts to enhance domestic connectivity from Los Angeles and streamline underperforming routes in Central America. Competitors, including Alaska Airlines, Avianca, United, and Volaris, will continue to operate direct flights between LAX and these destinations. Furthermore, Delta will maintain connections to San Salvador and Guatemala City via its Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport (ATL) hub.
Renewed Focus on Anchorage and the West Coast
Delta is set to relaunch seasonal weekly flights between Los Angeles and Alaska’s Ted Stevens Anchorage International Airport (ANC) starting 24 May 2025. This route marks its return since 2021.
- Aircraft Type: Boeing 737-900ER with 20 First Class and 27 Delta Comfort+ seats.
- Flight Schedule: Weekly flights will operate every Saturday, running through the Labour Day weekend, ending on 30 August 2025.
Additionally, Delta will resume daily direct flights between Harry Reid International Airport in Las Vegas (LAS) and San Jose Mineta International Airport (SJC) from 8 June 2025. This route reconnects Delta’s network, having been last served in 2020.
- Aircraft Type: Embraer 175 with a capacity of 76 seats, operated under the Delta Connection brand.
- Competitive Landscape: The LAS-SJC route will intensify competition with carriers like Alaska Airlines, Frontier, Spirit, United, and Southwest Airlines, all of which currently serve this market.
