Çukurova Airport Officially Opened: Turkey’s New Mark in Aviation
President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan made significant remarks at the inauguration of the newly completed Çukurova International Airport in Tarsus, Mersin. During the opening, Erdoğan criticized the CHP (Republican People’s Party), stating, “If there’s anything to criticize about the country’s resources, it’s not Çukurova Airport but the spendthrifts who waste the people’s money in Paris.”
Çukurova Airport: The New Transportation Hub of the Region
Erdoğan emphasized that Çukurova International Airport would serve the entire region, particularly Adana and Mersin. He noted that the airport has an annual capacity of 9 million passengers and is designed to accommodate the largest wide-body aircraft. Highlighting the careful incorporation of regional symbols in the airport’s design, Erdoğan said, “The cotton motifs and the orange color, symbols of this land, were chosen to decorate the airport.”
Şakirpaşa Airport Will Not Close
Dismissing opposition claims that Adana’s Şakirpaşa Airport would be closed, Erdoğan confirmed that the airport would continue to operate as an aviation training center. Criticizing the false claims, Erdoğan declared, “Perpetuating this lie is immoral,” and affirmed that aviation activities, excluding commercial flights, would continue at Şakirpaşa Airport.
Investments Contributing to the Regional Economy
Erdoğan highlighted that Çukurova International Airport would significantly boost trade and tourism in the region. He mentioned that the completion of the airport would create employment for 3,000 people and serve not only Adana and Mersin but also the surrounding provinces. Additionally, he announced the Adana Eastern Mediterranean Container Port project, which will connect Adana to the Middle East by sea.
Concluding his speech, Erdoğan officially inaugurated Çukurova Airport, marking another milestone in Turkey’s growing aviation sector.
