Turkish Airlines (THY) is set to resume flights to Damascus approximately 12 years after the start of the Syrian crisis. THY officially announced that flights to Damascus will commence on January 23.
However, due to entry regulations imposed by the Syrian government, it was stated that citizens of Israel and Iran would not be allowed to enter the country.
Important Warnings for Travel to Syria from THY
According to an announcement on Turkish Airlines’ official website, passengers wishing to travel to Syria must comply with the following rules:
- Ban on Israeli and Iranian Citizens: The Syrian government has prohibited entry for citizens of Israel and Iran.
- Document Submission Requirement: Passengers are required to present documents (if available) proving their Syrian citizenship.
- Exception for Lebanese Passengers: Lebanese citizens with at least one parent who is a Syrian citizen, or those holding a residence permit or visa from another country, will be allowed entry into Syria.
- Special Permit for Journalists: Journalists wishing to enter Syria must have a special permit.
