Four major airports in Moscow and an airport in Kaluga have been temporarily closed to flights. The Russian Federal Air Transport Agency (Rosaviatsiya) announced that the decision was made to ensure flight safety.
Drone Attack Concerns
According to Rosaviatsiya’s statement, Sheremetyevo, Domodedovo, Vnukovo, and Zhukovsky airports, as well as Kaluga Airport—located approximately 160 kilometers from Moscow—have been shut down as a precaution against potential drone attacks.
Enhanced Security Measures
The statement read:
“To ensure the safety of civil aircraft operations, these airports will temporarily not accept flights. Aircraft crews, air traffic controllers, and airport services are taking all necessary measures to ensure flight safety. Security always remains our top priority.”
Impact on Commercial and Civil Aviation
The temporary flight ban primarily affects commercial flights and civil aviation. However, no details have been provided regarding the duration of the restrictions. Rosaviatsiya emphasized that the situation is being continuously assessed, with additional measures to be taken if necessary.
Preparations for Normal Operations
Authorities stated that preparations for the resumption of flights are ongoing, but all processes will be managed with security as the foremost priority.
