Crisis in Irish Airspace! Virgin Atlantic Aircraft Sends Emergency Code

Virgin Atlantic flight VS8, operating from Los Angeles to London, declared an emergency one hour before landing in Irish airspace. The flight, operated by an Airbus A350K (registration number: G-VJAM), safely landed at London Heathrow Airport.

The Emergency Process

The aircraft took off from Los Angeles at 3:22 PM PST on February 7, 2025, for a 10-hour 20-minute flight. While flying over Irish airspace, the crew sent out an emergency signal with the 7700 code. This code indicates that the aircraft is requesting priority, typically due to technical or medical issues.

Approach to London and Landing

Despite the emergency declaration, the flight continued on its course, entering UK airspace at an altitude of 38,000 feet and heading towards London Heathrow. As the Airbus A350 neared London, it made a safe final approach. The aircraft, initially heading for runway 09L, was rerouted at the last moment and landed on runway 27L.

Safe Landing

The flight safely landed on runway 27L at the local time. Virgin Atlantic officials have not yet provided details about the incident. It remains unclear whether the emergency was caused by a technical malfunction or a medical issue.
