Crisis at Iran Air: 7 Flights Cancelled, Travel Chaos on the Iran–Qatar–Turkey Route

Iran Air cancelled seven flights on 9 October 2025. Disruptions affecting Tehran, Doha, and Izmir routes stranded hundreds of passengers across Iran, Qatar, and Turkey.

Iran’s national carrier, Iran Air, cancelled seven flights on 9 October 2025. Disruptions affecting Tehran, Larestan, Abadan, Doha, and Izmir left hundreds of passengers stranded across Iran, Qatar, and Turkey.

Iran’s national airline, Iran Air, announced on Thursday, 9 October, that seven flights had been cancelled and eight others delayed. According to FlightAware data, the cancellations and delays caused significant travel disruptions across Iran, Qatar, and Turkey.

Affected Cities and Flights

The main cities affected by the cancellations were Tehran, Larestan, Abadan, Doha, and Izmir.

The cancelled flights included both domestic and international routes.

Some of the cancelled services operated by Iran Air’s Airbus A319, Fokker 100, and Airbus A332 aircraft were as follows:

  • IRA326 (A319): Tehran (Mehrabad) – Larestan
  • IRA627 (A319): Larestan – Doha (Hamad)
  • IRA626 (A319): Doha – Larestan
  • IRA327 (A319): Larestan – Tehran
  • IRA265 (F100): Tehran (Mehrabad) – Abadan
  • IRA759 (A332): Tehran (Imam Khomeini) – Izmir (Adnan Menderes)
  • IRA264 (F100): Abadan – Tehran (Mehrabad)

It was also reported that a total of eight flights were delayed, accounting for approximately 16% of the airline’s scheduled operations.

Affected Airports

These developments caused operational challenges at several major airports in the region:

  • Mehrabad International Airport (Tehran): Severely affected as the hub for domestic operations.
  • Larestan International Airport: Suspension of connecting flights in southern Iran.
  • Abadan Airport: Passenger traffic came to a halt due to cancelled Tehran services.
  • Hamad International Airport (Doha): Delays in Larestan flights.
  • Imam Khomeini Airport (Tehran): Izmir flight cancelled.
  • Izmir Adnan Menderes Airport: Affected by the cancellation of the only Iran-linked international flight.

Regional Impacts and Tourism Implications

The cancellations and delays reportedly had a direct impact on the tourism industry in Iran, Qatar, and Turkey.

In Iran, the disruption of domestic flights weakened local tourism activity in cities such as Tehran, Larestan, and Abadan.

In Qatar, business and transit travel were affected by delays.

In Turkey, the cancellation of the Izmir route led to a temporary decline in tourist arrivals from Iran.

According to experts, this incident once again highlighted how vulnerable international air transport is to crises.

Recommendations for Affected Passengers

Following the cancellations, Iran Air advised passengers to take the following steps:

  • Contact customer service – For alternative flight arrangements or refunds.
  • Request a refund – Eligible passengers can receive ticket reimbursement.
  • Consider alternative transport options – Regional flights, train, or ground travel alternatives can be explored.
  • Request accommodation assistance – In cases of long delays, the airline may provide hotel support.

Iran Air officials stated:

“We are doing our utmost to assist all affected passengers as quickly as possible. The delays were caused by technical and operational reasons.”
