With this development, Istanbul Airport has joined the ranks of the few airports worldwide where three aircraft can independently take off and land simultaneously
Becoming the first airport in Europe to apply this system, İGA has significantly increased its operational capacity, providing effective solutions to air traffic congestion. Thanks to the triple runway operations, flight times are reduced, while passenger comfort, punctuality, sustainability, and operational flexibility are elevated to the highest level.

With a total of five runways, Istanbul Airport takes pride in reaching this critical milestone. Developed in accordance with ICAO regulations and successfully implemented in Europe, simultaneous triple runway operations minimize capacity limitations at the airport. This advanced operation was only made possible through a strong technical infrastructure. Within the scope of the work initiated in 2015, İGA specifically designed all air traffic infrastructure elements—including runways, taxiways, aprons, and aircraft parking positions—to support independent runway operations. Thus, from day one, Istanbul Airport was built with a vision ready for the future.
