Cockpit Window of KLM Aircraft Carrying the Dutch Queen Cracked

The cockpit window of a KLM Boeing 787-9 passenger aircraft flying from Amsterdam to San José, the capital of Costa Rica, cracked while over the Atlantic. At the time of the incident, the aircraft was at FL380 (38,000 feet). As it began its descent, the cockpit crew reported to air traffic control (ATC) that a crack had formed, restricting visibility, and requested priority landing.

The aircraft landed safely in San José, but the return flight was canceled. The aircraft, registered as PH-BHD, has reportedly been grounded in Costa Rica for approximately 64 hours following the incident.

Queen Mathilde Was on Board

Local media reported that Belgium’s Queen Mathilde was also on board, traveling to Costa Rica for an official visit.

Authorities have announced that a detailed technical investigation has been launched to determine the cause of the cockpit window crack.
