A captain on a SriLankan Airlines flight allegedly locked the co-pilot out of the cockpit during a flight. The incident occurred on Monday, October 14, during the 10-hour UL607 flight from Sydney to Colombo. Reports suggest that after the co-pilot requested a restroom break, he was not allowed back into the cockpit, leading to a tense confrontation between the two pilots.
The captain was reportedly angry because the co-pilot had failed to arrange for a cabin crew member to take his place in the cockpit before leaving. This frustration escalated, resulting in the cockpit being locked, and a senior flight attendant had to step in to mediate the situation. After the crew managed to calm the captain down, the co-pilot was allowed back into the cockpit.
SriLankan Airlines confirmed in a statement that the captain has been suspended from duty pending the outcome of an investigation into the incident.
