CH-53E Helicopter Makes Emergency Landing Amid Flames

A CH-53E Super Stallion helicopter made an emergency landing at Camp Pendleton after an engine fire. No injuries were reported, but drivers were advised of traffic delays.

On Friday, a U.S. Marine Corps CH-53E Super Stallion helicopter made an emergency landing in the Camp Pendleton area after a fire broke out in its engine. Flames were visible at the landing site, but all four crew members escaped uninjured.

Details of the Emergency Landing

James Estillore, spokesperson for the 3rd Marine Aircraft Wing’s Communication Strategy and Operations, stated that the fire started in the helicopter’s engine shortly after 4:00 PM local time during the flight.

“The flight crew executed emergency procedures and brought the aircraft down safely to the landing area,” Estillore said. According to the California Highway Patrol, the helicopter landed on the northbound side of Interstate 5, near the Aliso Creek Rest Area.

Fire Brought Under Control

Emergency response teams from local agencies and the Marine Corps quickly contained the fire after the landing. No significant damage was reported, and the surrounding area remained unaffected.
