During a Delta Air Lines flight from Atlanta to Chicago, passengers had to support a section of the cabin after a ceiling panel collapsed. No injuries were reported in the incident.
On April 14, shortly after Delta Air Lines Flight 2417 departed from Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport, an unusual event occurred. According to passenger Thomas Witschy, who spoke to Storyful, the ceiling panel of the Boeing 717 aircraft suddenly collapsed.
During the incident, Witschy and two other passengers had to get up from their seats to hold the panel until the flight crew was able to temporarily secure it. Thanks to the cabin crew’s quick response, the panel was taped up as a temporary fix.
Witschy documented the event by sharing a video of the incident and a photo of the taped panel with Storyful.
Delta Air Lines: “We Thank Our Passengers for Their Patience and Cooperation”
In an official statement, Delta Air Lines said that the panel was secured without the need for passenger intervention and that the aircraft returned to Atlanta for cabin maintenance. Passengers continued their journey on another aircraft after approximately a two-hour delay.
Airline officials emphasized that no injuries occurred and added:
“As always, we thank our customers for their patience and cooperation. We apologize for the delay in their travels.”
Delta Air Lines also stated that safety and maintenance procedures were thoroughly reviewed following the incident.
