An unusual incident occurred in the airside lobby area of Istanbul Airport’s YOTEL. A Russian passport holder travelling on Turkish Airlines flight TK1061 to Ljubljana panicked when her cat escaped into a shaft area through a gap beneath a washbasin as she was taking it out of its carrier.
Upon notification, İGA ARFF and Technical teams were swiftly dispatched to the scene. The initial intervention was carried out by the YOTEL technical team, who dismantled the washbasin and carefully opened part of the wall. However, despite prolonged efforts, the cat could not be reached.
As the search continued, thermal cameras and inspection devices with cameras were deployed. After visual scanning, the cat’s exact location was identified, and it was safely rescued by expert teams.
