An American Airlines Boeing 787-9 suffered significant damage to one of its engines after being struck by a loose cargo container at Chicago O’Hare International Airport. The incident occurred as flight AA47, arriving from London Heathrow, was taxiing to the terminal after landing.
The cargo container, likely a standard Unit Load Device (ULD), reportedly became dislodged from a service vehicle, possibly due to ground winds caused by another aircraft. It struck the aircraft’s right engine, causing considerable damage.
Photos shared on social media show metallic debris inside the engine, and aviation safety experts have called for stricter measures to prevent such accidents in the future.
Passengers and Crew Safe
No passengers or crew members were in danger during the incident, and the aircraft is set to undergo maintenance. American Airlines has launched an investigation into the accident.
