Busan-Istanbul Direct Flights Start Between South Korea and Turkey

The South Korean government will launch direct flights between Busan and Istanbul following successful negotiations with Turkey. The new route will operate from Gimhae International Airport in South Korea and will allow three flights per week. This move addresses the demand to enhance Busan’s international travel accessibility and is supported by the South Korean Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, and Transport.

The agreement was finalized at the International Civil Aviation Negotiations (ICAN) forum held in Malaysia and was signed on a platform provided by the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO). With this new route, the total number of flights between South Korea and Turkey will increase to a weekly total of 14 flights.

Currently, there are 11 weekly flights operated by Korean Air, Asiana Airlines, and Turkish Airlines on the Korea-Turkey route. With the rising demand and load factors exceeding 85%, the necessity for the Busan-Istanbul route has been clearly indicated. Officials from Busan City expressed their satisfaction with Turkish Airlines’ interest in Gimhae International Airport.

A representative from the South Korean Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, and Transport stated, “With the new route, passengers will be able to find direct connections from Busan and surrounding areas to Istanbul, making international travel more accessible.”
