A Lufthansa Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner en route from Frankfurt, Germany to Hyderabad, India was forced to return to Frankfurt Airport approximately two hours after take-off due to a bomb threat.
Around 200 Passengers Evacuated from Aircraft
Following the bomb alert, the aircraft landed safely and approximately 200 passengers on board were evacuated. German police reported that the aircraft underwent a thorough security inspection after landing at 18:30 local time.
Camp Set Up at Airport for Transit Passengers
Most of the passengers, who did not hold German visas, were kept in the transit area of Frankfurt Airport. According to media reports, camp beds were provided for those spending the night at the airport, along with food and drink. Lufthansa announced that a replacement flight was being arranged for the affected passengers.
U-Turn Made Over Bulgaria
According to Indian media and Flightradar24 data, the aircraft received the bomb threat while entering Bulgarian airspace and made a U-turn near the Black Sea coast to return to Germany. The aircraft reportedly remained airborne for nearly two hours.
Security Investigation Launched
Frankfurt police have launched an investigation into the incident. While the source of the bomb threat remains unclear, authorities confirmed that no explosives were found on board. Lufthansa emphasised in a statement that passenger safety is its top priority.
