Boeing 727 Faces Takeoff Danger in Colombia

Aerosucre’s Boeing 727-200 cargo aircraft, registered as HK-5216 and operating flight A4-372 from Bogota, Colombia, to Valencia, Venezuela, encountered a takeoff incident when it overran the end of the runway. While departing from Runway 14L, the plane struck a localizer antenna but managed to lift off safely and continued its flight. The aircraft remained airborne for a while before returning to Bogota, making a safe landing on Runway 14R about an hour after takeoff.

The Colombian Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) confirmed that the aircraft struck a localizer antenna located on the north runway (14L) during takeoff. The authority reported that the plane successfully took off, burned off fuel, and then returned to Bogota. The impact caused damage to the landing gear and left wing of the aircraft. The CAA has initiated an investigation into the impact of the antenna damage on airport operations. A detailed inquiry into the incident has been launched by the Colombian Aircraft Accident Investigation Unit.
