BBN Airlines Indonesia Suspends Jakarta-Surabaya Flight Route

BBN Airlines Indonesia, which began operations in September 2024, has suspended its Jakarta-Surabaya route effective Wednesday, 15 January 2025. The decision was made due to insufficient market demand and low seat occupancy rates.

Low Demand Drives the Decision

In a circular released by PT BBN Airlines Indonesia, it was stated that the closure of the Jakarta-Surabaya-Jakarta (CGK-SUB-CGK) route was primarily driven by seat occupancy rates below 50%. On 15 January 2025, only 81 passengers flew from Jakarta to Surabaya, while just 59 passengers were recorded on the return leg to Jakarta.

Following an internal audit on 16 January, it was revealed that only 306 tickets had been sold for flights scheduled between 17 January and 28 March 2025. As a result of the route suspension, 288 tickets were refunded, while 18 are still in the process of being reimbursed.
