Bayraktar TB3 Successfully Performs Fully Automatic Take-Off and Landing from TCG Anadolu
Turkish drone manufacturer BAYKAR has released footage showing the country’s first naval-based unmanned aerial vehicle, the Bayraktar TB3, performing a fully automatic take-off and landing from the TCG Anadolu warship.
The video was shared on BAYKAR’s official social media accounts with the caption: “We’ve crossed many seas… Sometimes by land, sometimes by air!”
1,080 Flight Hours, 551 Sorties
During its testing phase to date, the Bayraktar TB3 has:
-
Spent a total of 1,080 hours and 14 minutes in the air,
-
Carried out 551 sorties,
-
Conducted 42 sorties over the TCG Anadolu ship.
One of the most remarkable tests took place on 20 December 2023, when the TB3 flew non-stop for 32 hours, covering approximately 5,700 kilometres.
A First in Aviation History
On 19 November 2024, Bayraktar TB3 successfully performed its first take-off and landing from the TCG Anadolu while the ship was sailing off the coast of Aksaz, Muğla. This marked a historic milestone as the first achievement of its kind in global aviation history.
The test campaign continued with further successful missions on 26 November 2024. With these achievements, the Bayraktar TB3 became the first UCAV (Unmanned Combat Aerial Vehicle) capable of operating from short-runway naval vessels.
Why Is the Bayraktar TB3 Important?
The Bayraktar TB3 stands out as the first unmanned aerial vehicle system capable of taking off and landing from short-deck vessels like the TCG Anadolu, thanks to its foldable wing design.
This capability significantly enhances Turkey’s overseas military operational capacity and marks the beginning of a new era in drone technology.
