Baykar Surpasses the US and China: Turkey Now Leads the Global Armed Drone Market

The pride of Turkey’s defence industry, the Bayraktar TB2, has achieved yet another groundbreaking milestone in the history of global aviation. Developed using entirely domestic and national resources, the unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) has set a world first by executing an autonomous recovery from a spin manoeuvre.

Historic Moments During the Test Conducted in Edirne

During a test flight in Edirne, the Bayraktar TB2 was deliberately put into a spin. This highly dangerous aerodynamic condition was resolved independently by the UAV, thanks to its advanced autonomous control algorithms. With this achievement, the Bayraktar TB2 has become the first armed unmanned aerial vehicle (UCAV) in the world to recover from a spin autonomously.

What is a Spin, and Why is it Critical?

A spin is an extremely dangerous flight condition in which an aircraft loses stability and starts to rotate rapidly, causing severe altitude loss and a total loss of control. The TB2’s ability to recover from such a state has not only significantly enhanced its operational reliability, but also demonstrated the high level of technology behind its flight control systems and software capabilities.

Over One Million Flight Hours – Equivalent to Thousands of Trips Around the World

The Bayraktar TB2 is making headlines not only for its autonomous manoeuvre but also for its remarkable flight time record. Becoming the first Turkish aircraft to surpass one million flight hours, the TB2 has covered a distance of approximately 150 million kilometres – equivalent to circling the Earth 3,742 times.

Baykar: The Global Leader in the Armed Drone Market

The global success of the Bayraktar TB2 has propelled its manufacturer, Baykar, to the top. Now the world’s largest producer of armed drones, Baykar has surpassed leading firms from countries such as the United States, Israel, and China, capturing a 65% share of the global UCAV market.
