BAYKAR Provides 5 Billion Lira in Aid to Earthquake Victims

Following the February 6, 2023 earthquakes centered in Kahramanmaraş, Turkey demonstrated remarkable solidarity, with BAYKAR taking on a leading role. Committing a total of 5 billion lira in aid, BAYKAR focused on helping earthquake victims recover by constructing 1,012 permanent homes in Adıyaman, Hatay, and Kahramanmaraş, providing thousands of families with a warm home.

A New Beginning with 1,012 Permanent Homes

To address the housing needs in some of the most affected provinces—Adıyaman, Hatay, and Kahramanmaraş—BAYKAR undertook the construction of 1,012 homes with a budget of 3.4 billion lira. A total of 352 homes were built in both Adıyaman and Hatay, while 308 were constructed in Kahramanmaraş. As of August 2024, the handover process began, and eligible families started receiving their homes through a lottery system.

Rapid Support Through Financial and In-Kind Donations

In addition to housing projects, BAYKAR contributed 1.1 billion lira in cash donations through AFAD (Disaster and Emergency Management Authority) to address urgent needs in the region. Furthermore, with 210 million lira in in-kind aid, BAYKAR provided essential supplies such as food, hygiene products, clothing, tents, and medical equipment to the affected areas.

Temporary Housing with 520 Containers

Taking swift action after the earthquake, BAYKAR invested 180 million lira to establish a container housing complex in Kahramanmaraş, consisting of 520 containers. Named “BAYKAR Container City,” this settlement included social facilities such as a soup kitchen and educational centers, offering temporary shelter to 2,000 people.

2.5 Million Hot Meals for Earthquake Victims

One of the key initiatives addressing the basic needs of earthquake victims was the provision of hot meals. With an investment of 110 million lira, BAYKAR established four soup kitchens in Kahramanmaraş and Hatay, serving approximately 2.5 million hot meals.

Science and Technology Education for 120,000 Children

To support the education of children affected by the earthquake, the T3 Foundation established 13 science and technology workshops across Adıyaman, Hatay, Gaziantep, and Malatya. With the help of 1,000 volunteer instructors, over 120,000 children received science and technology education, fostering hope for their future.

BAYKAR Volunteers Everywhere

Beyond financial aid, BAYKAR’s team was actively present in the disaster zone, providing hands-on support to earthquake victims. More than 150 BAYKAR volunteers worked in 18 different teams on the ground, while the T3 Foundation and Cansağlığı Foundation, under the leadership of Selçuk Bayraktar, coordinated relief efforts in the region.
