B777X Delay Hits Boeing’s Financial Results Hard

Boeing reported a USD 4.9 billion loss in the third quarter of 2025 due to delays in the B777X programme. The company achieved production stability while postponing the first B777X delivery to 2027.

The delay in the B777X programme has dealt a major blow to Boeing’s financial results. Despite increased production and a recovery in revenue, the company reported a pre-tax loss of USD 4.9 billion.

The US aviation giant Boeing announced its financial results for the third quarter of 2025. The company reported a pre-tax loss of USD 4.9 billion due to delays in the B777X programme.

Boeing’s total revenue rose to USD 23.3 billion, driven by the delivery of 160 commercial aircraft. The company stated that production programmes had stabilised and that cash flow had shown signs of recovery.

Production Increase in 737 and 787 Programmes

Boeing’s 737 programme has achieved stability at a production rate of 38 aircraft per month. The company confirmed its plan to raise this number to 42 aircraft under an agreement with the US Federal Aviation Administration (FAA).

Meanwhile, the 787 programme continues to operate steadily, with ongoing investments in expanding the South Carolina facility.

B777X Delivery Postponed to 2027

The company updated the certification schedule for its long-range B777-9 model, announcing that the first delivery is now planned for 2027. The delay is expected to add billions of dollars in additional financial burden to Boeing’s balance sheet.

Despite the postponement, Boeing officials emphasised that B777X flight tests are progressing positively.

CEO Ortberg: “We Will Restore Our Stakeholders’ Confidence”

Boeing President and CEO Kelly Ortberg commented on the financial results as follows:

“While continuing to focus on safety and quality, we have made significant progress in our recovery process. Together with the FAA, we have agreed to increase 737 production. Although we are disappointed by the delay in the B777X schedule, the aircraft is performing well in tests.

Our goal now is to complete our development programmes, stabilise our operations, and restore the confidence of our stakeholders.”
