Assad Left Damascus: Fate Unknown! Escape Plane Disappeared from Radar

Historic developments in Syria: Anti-regime groups entered Damascus, and Bashar al-Assad fled the capital. The disappearance of a plane from radar and Assad’s uncertain fate raised questions.

The conflict and chaos in Syria have reached a new level. It has been reported that Bashar al-Assad fled the capital as anti-regime groups supported by Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (HTS) entered Damascus. While Assad’s destination remains unknown, the disappearance of a plane from Damascus Airport from radar during the same hours as the anti-regime groups took control of the city has raised new questions.

According to data from the Flightradar website, a Syrian Airlines plane took off from Damascus Airport as anti-regime forces advanced on the capital. Initially heading toward Syria’s coastal regions, which have a significant Alawite population, the plane abruptly reversed course before disappearing from radar screens within minutes.

Speaking to Reuters, Syrian sources suggested that Bashar al-Assad might have been on board and that the plane could have crashed. One source stated, “The plane’s transponder might have been turned off. However, it is more likely that the plane was shot down.”

Assad’s Fate Uncertain

Armed groups supported by Hayat Tahrir al-Sham captured Homs before reaching the outskirts of Damascus. The military leadership of Assad’s regime officially announced the fall of the capital.

Information obtained by Reuters indicated that Bashar al-Assad was headed to an unknown destination. Meanwhile, Syrian Prime Minister Mohammad Ghazi al-Jalali stated in a video message on his social media account, “We are ready to work with and provide all support to a government chosen by the Syrian people.”

Celebrations in Damascus and Latakia

As anti-regime forces entered Assad’s palace in Damascus, symbols of the regime were taken down in cities such as Latakia, Aleppo, and Hama. Videos shared by opposition groups show all political prisoners being freed from detention centers and people celebrating in city centers.

In a video broadcast on Syrian state television, an anti-regime group declared the fall of Assad and the beginning of a new era.
