A Boeing 737 belonging to American Airlines made an emergency landing at Chicago O’Hare Airport after the crew reported a “possible electrical issue.” The incident occurred on Sunday, December 1, when the plane returned approximately half an hour after departing from Chicago.
Technical Issues and Safe Landing
According to Aviation Herald, the autopilot and autothrottle systems were disabled, while the takeoff warning system and door lights were activated. The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) announced that it would investigate the incident.
Travel Plans Unaffected
Passengers were transported to Las Vegas on a backup aircraft. The same plane resumed operations and flew to San Francisco after undergoing inspections. The incident took place during the busy Thanksgiving weekend.
Record Flight Traffic for American Airlines
The airline transported 8.3 million passengers on over 77,000 flights during the Thanksgiving period. The FAA recorded 232,000 flights starting November 24.
